Welcome to The Anvil, folks. A place where ideas on art and life are forged, worked, and shaped.
I am Jenna Homen. I live in Los Angeles. I am an artist. I work as a sign painter. I am other things, too, but that will do for now.
The Anvil is a place to explore what I find inspiring and why. It’s an offering of ideas and perspectives to our universal creative consciousness. It’s a collection of writings from a place between memoir and niche, art-forward topics that tickle my brain.
Future topics include: topiary, collecting rocks, outsider art, vintage and rare cartoons, a tour of my bookshelves, rave flyers, folk art, and so on, mixed in with personal anecdotes.
A guide on how to sign paint or become a sign painter.
Yes, I will talk about sign painting, and yes, I will be sharing art and graphics and letterforms that are catching my eye. But ultimately, this is a place for me to exist as artist, not just as sign painter.
I will be quite vulnerable here at times, so a subscription is our mutual assurance of respect. I see the monthly (or annual, should you choose) fee as a shaking of hands, an agreement between me and you that there is good intent. That you appreciate what goes into creative practice. That my time is valued, and that I, in turn, will produce work that values your time.
Most pieces will be paywall free, but it's a right I reserve to take—especially in a world where human thought is mined, processed, and regurgitated by computers and companies for profit. Barf!
Thanks for joining me on this journey. See ya soon.
